Loosening
the Reins
e are all familiar with the performance
potential of turbochargers. Ford’s
EcoBoost lineup of powerplants use the
exhaust-powered blowers to give small-
displacement engines the performance
of their less-efficient, naturally aspirated counterparts.
Ford engineers would love to give owners all the power
they can deliver, but the automaker needs to keep cars out
of dealers’ service departments. So Ford tasks its engineers
to include a large tuning safety margin against poor fuel,
plugged filters, and owner mechanical negligence.
To protect their products against not-so savvy owners,
there’s power hidden in the tuning of turbocharged engines
... and the performance addicts at Livernois Motorsports &
Engineering have found it. Livernois offers the MyCalibrator
Touch device, which not only installs the company’s custom
tunes in vehicles like the twin-turbo 2.7L EcoBoost Fusion
Sport used for our test, but the MyCalibrator Touch can read

and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Livernois developed tunes for the 2.7L EcoBoost Fusion
that cover a wide range of fuels, including 91- and 93-octane.
Livernois claims peak-to-peak gains of over 90 hp and 80
lb-ft of torque! The company also modifies the automatic
transmission’s torque management and shift behavior,
improves throttle response, and revises the top speed
limiter.
We tried the MyCalibrator to install Livernois’ latest
tune for 2.7L EcoBoost Fusion. Even with the 87-octane
tune, the car was more responsive and the automatic trans-
mission felt great. With a tank full of fresh 93-octane, we did
a little 60-foot time testing. After
foot braking to build boost, our 60-foot time improved
by three tenths of a second, or 14 percent. That’s really
impressive for our little family hauler!
We found the Livernois MyCalibrator Touch to be an easy-
to-use method to squeeze more fun from our Fusion!
