→Who needs driving
schools, right? Personally, I
think it doesn’t matter how
much experience you have
behind the wheel. There’s
always room for improve-
ment, and a dedicated driv-
ing program is unbelievably
valuable.
Over the years I’ve been
fortunate enough to partici-
pate in a lot of extracurricu-
lar activities, such the Bob
Bondurant School of High
Performance Driving and
Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing
School. From the begin-
ning of both schools, it was
all about maximizing the
experience behind the wheel
with minimal downtime. At
Bondurant, we focused on
advanced street driving skills

with car control techniques,
which touched on a variety
of courses, from the slalom
and autocross to real-world
accident avoidance. The best
part? At the end of each day
we would take everything
we learned and apply those
techniques on the 1.6-mile
road course.
When it comes to drag
racing, Frank Hawley’s
Drag Racing School is a
very detailed regimen that
offered plenty of seat time.
This included every aspect
of running a car down the
track. Assuming you handle
your business appropriately,
there’s a good chance you
can even leave the program
with your NHRA license.
One thing you may not

what we do. Think about it.
With today’s technology, we
can have all the power we
want (contingent on your
bankroll), which makes it
even more important to get
the skills you need for a safe
and successful outing.
What schools have you
been to and how did you like
it? Follow up with me at the

have known is that while
Frank Hawley will supply
the vehicles, the school also
offers a program where you
can bring your own car.
Obviously, if you’re trying
to get your NHRA license,
you’ll want to make sure that
car can get the job done.
While I’ve been empha-
sizing the fun, the more
important idea to convey is
that you will walk away from
these programs with a lot
more confidence and plenty
of information to help make
your own program suc-
cessful. Let’s be real for a
moment—as much fun as
we have behind the
wheel, we also
