if he wanted it.
Don was elated the car had its numbers-
matching original block. When he arrived
to buy the Galaxie he made the check out
for an extra $500, which stands to reason.
After all, this was a Galaxie 500 XL.

Don rebuilt the 427 with this side-oiler,
instead of the original top-oiler, which
came with a tag that read “cracked.”
Apparently, the original block had been
“welded up once and bored out.” Don
says the Galaxie “runs great.” That’s what
