Muscle Car Review – September 2019

SEPTEMBER 2019 49

Steve searched for the best possible Sassy Grass Green car in
existence after the owner of his old FJ6 383-powered convertible
would not sell it back to him. With a four-speed and high-revving
340, this was the drop-top ride he was looking for.

The 340 drop-top came originally with Ral-
lye wheels. Steve’s affinity for steel wheels
steered him towards these FJ6-painted 15-
inch wheels.

The 340 fender tags are also interesting,
with the main tag mounted along with two
small aluminum tags. Steve says, “I contacted
Galen Govier about it, and he wasn’t too sure
either. Possibly to denote the white convert-
ible top, he said.”

Steve figured that since he was al-
ready adding to the aesthetics of the
’Cuda with billboards and elastomeric
bumpers, he might as well add some
pop to the engine. The 340 mill is now
shaded by a Shaker scoop, and its block
was stroked to 376 ci. Backing it is an
A833 four-speed trans.

 When Steve restored
the convertible, he
was able to reuse the
dash pad and door
panels, which saved
some hefty expense
in the long run. With
a Pistol Grip between
the white buckets, Rim
Blow wheel, and Rallye
dash, this small-block
barnstormer just oozes
a muscular vibe.
