n case you needed any
more proof that Steve
McDonald is the most
fertile man in soapland,
this week he discovers he may
have a secret love child.Yep, the rumours are true –
it seems that ditzy hairdresser
Emma Brooker is the cabbie’s
kid, from his relationship with
old flame Fiona Middleton.
Emma had assumed that
the man she calls ‘dad’ is her
biological father. But when she
visits him at Weathy General,
where he’s on his deathbed, he
tells her he has always loved her
as if she were his own.
The crimper reels to realise
they’re not blood relations, and
confides in Audrey, who’s there to
support her. But Audrey then gets
a shock of her own. As Emma
ignores a call from her mother,
Audrey clocks that the photo
flashing up on the phone is of
Fiona, whom she employed in her
salon back in the 1990s.
Emma’s distraught when her
‘dad’ later passes away. Over inthe Rovers, meanwhile, Audrey
tells Liz what she has found
out, while Emma mentions to
Steve that her mum now lives
abroad but was originally from
Weatherfield and is called FionaMiddleton. He’s amazed to think
what a small world it is, and is
thrown when Liz points out that
she could be his daughter.
‘Steve doesn’t really believe
that it’s a possibility,’ says Simon
Gregson, who plays him. ‘He feels
Emma is more likely to be his dad
Jim’s daughter, who Fiona had
an affair with. In all honesty, he’s
hoping that Liz is wrong.’Tracy is on holiday with Amy as
the drama is unfolding, but it’s not
long before she and her daughter
arrive back. Steve agrees to collect
them from the airport, but en route,
he spots Emma crying at the bus
stop. Learning she’s on her way to
the chapel of rest, he insists on
taking her there. And when she
can’t afford to pay for a nice coffin,
he slips the undertaker £ 6 00.
When Tracy catches up with
him, she demands to know why he
has cleared out their joint bank
account. Steve spins a yarn about
having to help with the funeral of
a family friend, and then secretly
researches DNA tests. Is he about
to discover he has another child?That’s

distraught EmmaKym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, is to co-present a new daytime
consumer show for BBC1. Called For Love or Money, it will see Kym team up
with news reporter Ashley John-Baptiste to investigate so-called ‘romance
frauds’. The five-part series will hit screens later in the year, and the pair will
investigate a different case in each episode.
It marks a new venture for Kym, who announced in February that she’s
