Close-up of one of the tail-light assemblies. These are handed,
so make sure they are fitted in the correct positions and
painted accordingly. For the super detailer, there is scope to
replace all the deep wading screen straps and buckles with
photo-etched parts!

The shape of the paper template made earlier has now been transferred to some
masking tape, which has been placed onto the photo-etched mesh to aid cutting the
mesh to the correct shape

At the time of building this Sheridan, the only detailing set available
specifically for the new Tamiya kit was the set from Passion Models
(35-144). This set is superb and in the author’s opinion offers all the
important parts, including those prominent engine screens

PAINTING
I’d had a few conversations with the Editor regarding the actual colour
of these tanks in Vietnam. We came to the conclusion that it was a
very dark green, certainly not the regular olive drab we associate with
US armour. Thanks to platforms such as Facebook and pages within
that specialise in so many modelling topics including Vietnam photo
references, there is an absolute wealth of amazing colour photos that
have been unearthed, which have helped me no end to get a firm idea
for the base colour I wanted to choose.

For the base colour, the author chose Vallejo’s Model Air 'Yellow
Olive' with a few drops of Alclad’s Aqua Gloss, which was added
to help create the distinctive sheen seen on the real vehicles

Hycote’s acrylic
automotive grey
primer was used
to prime the model
prior to applying
the camouflage
colours which helps
key the acrylic
camouflage colours
to the surface of the
kit, especially when
additional materials,
such as resin and
photo-etched parts
are present

AMMO by Mig’s Dunkelgrun was used to base-coat the
numerous .50cal ammo boxes stowed on the Sheridan
that are needed to feed the two M2 heavy machine guns.
Archer’s waterslide decal sets were used to provide the
authentic stencil markings for all these boxes

To add some tonal variation to the base colour,
a mix of Vallejo Green Game Ink and Light Grey
were added to the base Yellow Olive. As can
be seen in this photo, it has added some fading
to the centre of the panels, along with some
warmth to the tone of the base colour
