T

he BMR-1 is based on the T-54/55 hull and
running gear and features a large armoured
casemate for the crew, plus a small, drum-
like turret fitted with a heavy machine gun.
Different types of mine roller were fitted and in
this recent release from MiniArt of the late-model
vehicle, we have the KMT-7 mini-roller variant. It's
an extraordinary-looking machine that's covered
with weld seams, cables and mechanical detail
and is ideal for reproduction in 1:35.
MiniArt T-54/55 kits are exemplary
productions and are now widely
recognised as some of the best out
there; adding the BMR-1 to the line-
up was completely logical and is
very welcome. The first thing to say
is that the box is rammed with parts
but this impression is partially due
to the use of many small sprues,
some carrying just a handful of
components each; if larger, more
conventional sprues were employed
the contents might look a little
less intimidating! The detail in the
injection-moulded grey polystyrene
is stunning, enhanced further with

photo-etched brass, metal chain and individual
track links. An amazing retro-futuristic subject
with masses of detail and endless weathering
potential; this is not a criticism, but it’s certainly
no quick-build project! U

ROLL WITH IT

The BMR-1 was a Soviet mine-clearing tank,

best known for its role in Afghanistan during

the 1980s when Soviet troops occupied parts

of the country. Thanks to MiniArt, we now have

a fabulous new 1:35 of the late-model vehicle
