n this iconic image from the Battle of Normandy,

we see smiling ‘Glengarrians’ from the Stormont,

Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders of the 3rd

Canadian Infantry Division having tea and a

meal on the platform of Caen railway station in the

summer of 1944. The nervous smirks are probably

from being photographed because the battle for

Caen was tough and brutal with little to laugh

about. The scene would make a wonderful vignette
