into a spin that eliminated them both.
Tio Ellinas took advantage of the melee to
relieve points leader Julien Andlauer of what
had been fifth place, but was now third.
Heavy rain coincided with the withdrawal
of the safety car after four neutralised laps
and Pereira speared off the road at Turn 2,
dropping to sixth. But as he rejoined, six
midfielders tangled at the same corner,
bringing out the safety car again. As the
rain intensified the race was stopped on
lap seven, handing Pereira victory.

ROUND 5/9
Dylan Pereira claimed an unexpected
maiden victory in a rain-truncated
Porsche Supercup race at Hockenheim.
Pereira, a veteran of 35 starts, was 12th
in the points going into the round, but
qualified on the front row and rocketed into
an early lead as polesitter Larry ten Voorde
fluffed the start with too much wheelspin.
Michael Ammermueller also slipped by into
Turn 1 but ten Voorde was on his tail, and
as they battled in the opening laps Pereira
escaped into a two-second lead.
Mikkel Pedersen made a great start from
eighth to claim fourth on the opening lap,
and on the fourth tour he took advantage
of the duel ahead to slipstream past ten
Voorde on the run to the hairpin. But he
failed to slot into the diminishing gap
behind Ammermueller and tagged him

Piastri steals Eurocup lead

ROUND 5/10
The Formula Renault Eurocup title battle
converged at Spa for the mid-point of
the season. Oscar Piastri and Lorenzo
Colombo, both behind on points coming
in, took a win and a fourth place apiece.
After being beaten into third by points
leader Victor Martins and Sebastian
Fernandez, Piastri struck back in race
one by slipstreaming past Martins on
the opening lap for the lead to take a
controlled victory. Fernandez stalled,
but charged back to third.
Martins’ MP Motorsport team-mate
Colombo utilised the slipstream effect
best in race two and, once he passed
polesitter Leonardo Lorandi for the
lead, he was untouchable.
Federico Malvestiti held onto an
unlikely third for much of the race,
but spun after being passed by Piastri
on the last lap. He was then hit by title
contenders Martins and Alexander
Smolyar, from last on the grid, with the
latter flipping and being sent to hospital.
The result was taken from two laps
before, so Caio Collet and Malvestiti
completed the podium behind Colombo.
Fourth for Piastri gives him the title
lead over Martins on win countback.
Colombo and Smolyar are not far
behind after Smolyar was classified
sixth in race two.
