A PLUCKY PUG HEART The buzzing non-championship Formula 1 scene in South Africa was the
stage for privateer Rauten Hartman to build his 1964 Peugeot 403-engined Netuar. Making its return
to competition with Arnout Kok in the two HGPCA races, the modest 100bhp output was stymied
by a misfire and getting stuck in third gear. Kok plans to keep development in check, saying:

FAMILY JEWEL
The Halusa family’s
1932 Alfa Romeo 8C
2300 Zagato Spider
finished in the top 15
of the Mille Miglia
during the first three
years of its life before
sheltering on an Italian
farm during the
Second World War.
After an unsympathetic
restoration, during
which the piston rings
were chromed, Martin
Halusa bought the
“little jewel” and put
it back into suitable
competition trim. In
the pre-war sportscar
race, son Niklas piloted
it to seventh.

UNFINISHED BENTLEY BUSINESS
Only five Bentley Speed 8s were ever built, and of those just three actually raced. Shaun
Lynn’s example was the first produced, and finished fourth at Sebring in 2003 thanks
to eventual Le Mans winners Tom Kristensen, Rinaldo Capello and Guy Smith. It tested
ahead of the French enduro, but was replaced by chassis #5 for the race. After a run
at Barcelona earlier this year, the Silverstone Classic was this car’s fourth race.
Supported by a team of its original mechanics, who have retrieved the original set-up
data and developed the once-troublesome clutch slave seal, Lynn achieved a best
result of sixth in the Masters Endurance Legends bouts. Photograph by JEP
