GODZILLA ROARS The Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R annihilated Group A touring cars, winning 100% of its
races in Japan. It was as effective in Australia, twice victorious at Bathurst to end the reign of the Ford
Sierra RS500. Capri regular Ric Wood spent seven months building this Calsonic-liveried example.
Shared with BTCC driver Adam Morgan, it hit troubles in the Historic Touring Car Challenge when
the oversensitive ECU tripped, so the race became a test session. Photograph by JEP

F1 ORGAN DONOR Masters Historic Formula 1 driver Mark Hazell’s Silverstone Classic was saved
thanks to his Williams FW07 ‘donor’ car. The clutch on his FW08C exploded during practice and
burst the oil tank. As Williams Heritage was unable to source a spare in time, his FW07 – which has
not been stress-tested and so was ineligible – was transported from Wales and stripped for its parts
by Martin Stretton Racing. Hazell finished 12th and 11th in the two races. Photograph by JEP

ROAD RACER Long before the F1, McLaren’s first ‘road car’ offering came with the conversion of
two of its M6GT Can-Am machines. Thomas Studer’s replica of the David Prophet car that raced at
Crystal Palace was left to Martin Stretton for its Masters Historic Sports Cars debut. “An M6 is a very
good racing car,” said Stretton, who finished fourth. “Although we haven’t done enough testing
and hit the sweet spot, it can be every bit as good as a [Lola] T70.” Photograph by Steve Jones
