ER 2002 hit assured us, “I’m
still Jenny from the block.
Used to have a little, now I
have a lot.”
And boy, does she ever.
This is the woman who start-
ed off as a back-up dancer on a TV show,
and worked her way up to become one
of the most successful and richest enter-
tainers on the planet.
At last count her fortune was estimat-
ed at $400m (R5,6 billion).
Jennifer is unapologetic about her rep-
utation and her riches.
“It’s a shame to call somebody a diva
simply because they work harder than
everybody else,” she says. “If I didn’t have
certain ambitions, I might’ve gotten mar-
ried after high school and had kids and
decided to get a job at a bank, like my
aunt did. It’s just that I had dreams and
ideas that were different.”
There’s no sign of her star waning.
She’s still producing chart-topper after
chart-topper and landing acting gigs in
an industry infamous for favouring
younger talent.
But her longevity is perhaps precisely
because she looks 30 – thanks to a
gruelling regime that sees her working
out (or dancing) every day and following
a strict organic diet.
J Lo has said she feels more confident
in her skin now than ever. “I see pictures
of myself in my twenties and go, ‘Oh, I
look better now!’ ” she told US Weekly.
“I embrace who I am. I feel sexy, I feel
youthful, I feel pretty sometimes.”
And clearly the world picks up on
