urrounded by friends and family on the steps
of Monaco’s spectacular cathedral, Louis
Ducruet – the grandson of Prince Rainier III and
Princess Grace – and his bride Marie Chevallier
are a picture of joy, just moments after saying “I
do” in the Mediterranean principality’s second
royal wedding of the year.
Two months after his cousin Charlotte Casiraghi
married film producer Dimitri Rassam, Louis tied
the knot in a magical ceremony that featured
touching tributes to his grandparents. Speaking
ahead of the big day, Louis said: “I never knew my
grandmother, and since I was born I’ve had a real
admiration for my grandfather. I would have
wanted him there. He’ll be with me in the
cathedral, whatever happens, and that’s why we
chose it for our wedding venue.”
The spectacular ceremony was the first royal
wedding in Notre Dame Immaculée Cathedral in
more than 60 years. Rainier married his
Hollywood bride Grace Kelly there in 1956 in
what was dubbed “the wedding of the century”,
capturing people’s hearts around the world.
Louis and Marie’s ceremony was just as joyous.
It began at 2.30pm, when Marie, described by the
groom as his “soul twin” and his “heaven on
earth”, arrived in an open-top Rolls-Royce
festooned with pink and white flowers.
