SUN,FUN AND

SWEDISH DELIGHTS...

DearClassic American,
My reflections on this year’s
Power Meet areasfollo ws: it
was pretty much business as
usual.We attended both events
again this year and the Power
Meet in Lidköping is in its third
year at the new venue. It’swell
organised and its confidence
appears to be growing and it’s
become the top mid-summer
show for the best American cars
in Sweden.
The highlight of the show
was amega lineup of 14 1959
Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
convertibles... only in Sweden!
Thereweremeant to be another
three cars, but they could not
make it.
The runway was awash with a

sea of chrome-encrusted cuties.
Interestingly,the Swedes arenot
into Corvairs,VegasorPintos,
plus the baby Thunderbirds
arenot to opopular either with
the Swedes. They love their
full-size convertibles.
Somereally nice cars were
offe redfor sale... likeamint
1958 DeSoto Fireflite sedan, a
low-mileage simply beautiful
white 1961 Chrysler Newport
station wagon anda1958 Edsel
Pacer convertible, to name but
afew.Later in the afternoon
the best 200 cars went for an
escorted tour of picturesque
Lidköping. The streets were
lined with an enthusiastic public
and it was great fun to watch
and participate in.

TheSummer Meet inVästerås
was good too and very popular
with the ‘Raggar’ cars, who
seem to have adopted the
Västerås Summer Meet as
their own.
Cruising is as much fun as it
always was, with midnight at
the infamous gas station still
looking like “the end of the
world” (That’swhy they call it
Armageddon!)
Whichever event one
chooses, Sweden always comes
up tops for fun in the midnight

sun.We’redefinitely
looking forwardtomore
Swedish fun in 2020!

Thanks for the pictures Robbie
and Gavin, it certainly looks like
ablast,whichever show you
goto,although it’sinteresting
to hear the shows seem be
developingtheir own individual
identities as to the type of
American owner they’re aiming
to appeal to...

Västerås Summer Meet.

DearClassic American,
Inoticed in June’sissue you
mentioned in the upcoming events
Power Meet in Lidköping, Sweden,
but failed to mention the Summer
Meet inVästerås. As I’m sure you
know,Power Meet moved to
Lidköping three years ago because
Västerås was supposedly too small
for the number of cars expected,
but the event has continued under
the Summer Meet name.Ihave
been going for the last 10 years
to Västerås and have to say it
continues to be as good as ever.
The weather wasabit of an
issue on the Friday for the fine
car cruising, but the people still
turned out to watch. Saturday
was perfect weather on the field
with apparently 6000 cars entered
and remained so later in the early

evening for the town cruising. It is
better organised than before, with
just as m any stands selling parts
and accessories, butalot more
places to eat, get drinks and toilets.
One of the hangars on the
airfield becomesabar/restaurant
with live bands playing all day.
There are more events and
competitions, Best Rockabilly hair
style ,legal burnout area etc. Please
next year at least give itamention
in up coming events and let the
people decide.
Keep up the good work with the
magazine.
