ombining motivational videos and a custom-
made exercise bike, Motiview is designed
to motivate older people and people with
dementia to increase their physical activity. Motiview
includes a video library of 1,700 routes from 36 countries and
approximately 200 routes from the UK alone. Residents can
cycle familiar routes, experiencing reminiscence at the same
time as getting all the physical benefits provided by longer
periods of exercise.
The system boasts a number of physical benefits,
including: reduction in pain; reduced medication; increased
mobility; fewer falls; better sleep; increased appetite;
healthy weight maintenance; and reduction in anxiety and
aggressive behaviour.
In combination with its physical and mental wellbeing
benefits, Motiview encourages social interaction amongst the
care home community.
Motiview also has cost effective impacts for care home staff,
including: better self-efficacy for residents, hence reduced
need for staff to follow-up; reduction of the necessity for 1 to
1 care due to increased confidence and mobility of residents;
reduction in medication costs; and a reduction in falls.
A recent Sport England funded project found a number of
significant benefits for participants, including a 10% increase
in activities, a 7% drop in pain and discomfort and 12% decline
in anxiety and depression, as well as 14% improvement in
general health.
Motiview has entered into a partnership with the British
Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Sport
England, British Cycling, Care England and the National
Care Forum to promote The Road World for Seniors annual
cycling event, which coincides with the official UCI Road
World Championships for professional cyclists.

MOTITECH’S MOTIVIEW VIDEO AND
EXERCISE BIKE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED
TO HELP CARE HOME RESIDENTS
IMPROVE THEIR MOBILITY WHILE ALSO
PROMPTING REMINISCENCE.

Last year, 2,400 residents from care homes in Norway,
Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, United Kingdom, and Canada
signed up for the championship. Motiview is now inviting its
care home clients across the nation to participate, with the
goal of having 2,000 participants from care homes and users
of adult day care centres from the UK taking part this year.
