ANIMATED ADVENTURE. 118 MIN.

  1. PGV.
    From the opening scene,
    which sees the sun rising
    over the African savanna,
    to the animals making their
    way across the Pride Lands
as a lion cub is presented to
    the animal kingdom,
    familiar scenes from the
    1994 original film fill you
    with a sense of beautiful
    nostalgia.
    Just like the original, The
    Lion King tells the story
    of lion cub Simba,
    who’s set to follow in
    the footsteps of his
    respected father,
    King Mufasa (James
    Earl Jones).
    But not everyone in the
    kingdom wants Simba to
    fulfil his royal destiny, most
    notably his uncle, Scar
    (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
    Director Jon Favreau
    (The Jungle Book) has
    brought another Disney
    classic to vivid life –
    from the photo-realistic
    characters to the sounds
of nature, such as the lions’
    roars, you feel like you’re

completely immersed in the
natural world.
The characters in the
remake may not be as exp-
ressive as in theoriginal
and thereareminor

Even after all these years,
the heart-rending scene
after Mufasa’s death is likely
to move you to tears.
While many have dubbed
it “Beyoncé’s movie”
because of the superstar
singer’s involvement in the
film,including the sound-
track,it’sactually the
