Scoop

Nearly two decades after Beverly
Hills, 90210 ended its 10-season run
in 2000, the iconic soapy drama
returns to TV—with a twist. “We
didn’t want to do a straight reboot,”
explains Tori Spelling, who, along
with costar and close friend Jennie
Garth, conceived of the new version.
“It had to be different and fresh.” On
the Fox series BH90210, premiering
Aug. 7, all of the original cast members
(except Luke Perry, who died in
March) play fictional versions of
themselves attempting to get a reboot
off the ground. “There is a lot of depth
to it,” says Garth. “There’s the show
and then the show within the show.
But our characters are part of each of
us. So to blend them together feels
natural. We’re like, ‘Why didn’t we
do this sooner?’ ” —AILI NAHAS

Is Back!

IAN ZIERING

Ziering, 55, played frat-
boy-turned-family-man
Steve Sanders. “He had a
tremendous story arc,” says
the dad of two. He jokes of
the cast’s good looks:
“We’ve all had face-lifts!”

GABRIELLE CARTERIS

As brainy Andrea Zuckerman,
“I started my life on the
show,” says Carteris, 58, now
a mom of two and president
of the actors’ union SAG-
AFTRA. “It’s amazing that
I’ve come full circle.”

JENNIE GARTH

At first “we didn’t know how
to handle everything that
was thrown at us,” says mom
of three Garth, 47, who
played resilient Kelly Taylor.
“But we survived, and all
the mistakes and feuds just
brought us closer.”

JASON PRIESTLEY

Priestley, 49, who played
virtuous Brandon Walsh, is
proud of how the original
series tackled difficult issues
like addiction. Says the
director and dad of two: “It’s as
relevant now as it was then.”

BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN

Just 17 when 90210 began,
“I was like the little brother,”
says dad of four Green, 46,
who played musician David
Silver. “Now the dynamic
has shifted. We have so much
more in common.”

SHANNEN DOHERTY

Doherty, 48, stirred
up drama as Brenda Walsh
for four seasons before
going on to star in
Charmed. The actress is
in remission after
fighting breast cancer.

TORI SPELLING

Before filming BH90210, “we
agreed we had to go all-in,”
says Spelling, who played
virginal Donna Martin. Adds
the mom of five, 46:
“We totally poke fun at the
public’s perception of us.”

Strong Bond
“The show was
such a formative
time period in all
of our lives,” says
Spelling of the
cast (in 2019 and,
below, in 1990).
“On some level
we are truly like
brothers and
sisters.”

Losing
Luke Perry
Five months after Luke
Perry, who played bad
boy Dylan McKay, died
of a stroke at age 52 on
March 4, his costars are
still coming to terms
with the tragedy. “There
are so many layers of
grief,” says Garth. “But
being back together
with everyone else who
loved him so much is
helping get all of us
through it.”
