(Grace) #1
Your character,
Cat Chambers,
is always up to all
sorts of fun—we
trust you’re having
a good time too?
Cat can do
everything I wish
I could do—she’s
a surfer, she
skateboards, she
sleeps with everybody
unapologetically.
I was like, “Is this my
alter ego?”

Q&A

And is that you
doing all
those stunts?
I’m pretty good
at the leaping,
running and fight
sequences, and
I love the Jet Skis,
but I have an
extraordinary
stunt double.
What does your
family think
of the show?
Even the little
ones are watching
it! Especially
my 6-year-old
daughter Violet.
It’s good for her
to see girls doing
crazy, fun things.

MOVIE| After the Wedding
DRAMAJulianne Moore and Michelle
Williams make a fascinating pair of
frenemies in an overheated but com-
pelling melodrama. Moore’s large-
scale performance would have
trouble squeezing into a big-box
store, while Williams’s is as cool,
straight and compact as an ice-cube
tray. And yet, somehow, these two
excellent actresses come out even.
(In limited release Aug. 9, PG-13)

MOVIE| Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
Over-the-top thrills—and plenty of vrooming tips
ACTIONIf seasoned action stars Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham have
learned one thing from making all those Fast & Furious movies, it’s to leave no butt
unkicked. In this spinoff, Hobbs (Johnson) and Shaw (Statham) team up to save the world
from a stolen biomedical weapon. Trouble is, the dudes don’t like each other—cue the
alpha-male banter and laughs. The slick, stylish action can become predictable, but the film
smartly relies on Fast touchstones like exotic locations, fast cars and family. It’s a fun ride,
anchored by scene-stealing performances from conflicted villain Brixton (Idris Elba) and
sly MI6 agent Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), and a few unexpected star cameos. (Aug. 2, PG-13)

MOVIE | The Nightingale
DRAMAClare (Aisling Franciosi), an Irish convict
in 1820s Australia, sets off through the forest on a
mission of revenge: Crazed with grief. she wants
to punish the lieutenant (Sam Claflin) who bru-
tally ruined her life. The Nightingale is directed
by Jennifer Kent, best known for the 2014 horror
classic The Babadook. This is just as ghostly:
Moving secretly among the trees, Clare herself is
a kind of phantom. (In limited release Aug. 2, R)
