A

t 50 years old, Brenda Mueller enrolled
in college for the fi rst time with big plans
to earn her paralegal certifi cate. But when
she woke up for class one morning with a
bone-crushing headache, her life took an unexpected
turn. She has woken up with that same headache every
single morning for the past nine years.
Brenda suff ers from a spinal tap headache that
causes debilitating, full-body pain, and was initially
treated by having a pain pump, about the size of
a hockey puck, inserted in her abdomen. Despite
countless hospital visits, nearly 10 neurologists’
opinions, and several diff erent treatment plans, she
has yet to uncover what triggered this never-ending
headache, or fi nd out how to cure it. “My husband and
I spent my 60th birthday and our 32nd anniversary in
the hospital,” says Brenda. “I just don’t know what it’s
going to be like from day to day.”
In the new TNT program Chasing the Cure,
anchor and executive producer Ann Curry will delve
into issues plaguing Brenda and other patients with
undiagnosed or misdiagnosed medical conditions.
The program will utilize a panel of medical experts
and the benefi t of crowdsourcing, tapping into
millions of viewers in hopes of fi nding someone who
can off er help.
Brenda is eager to meet with the doctors on
Chasing the Cure and hopes that viewers will listen to
her story with an open mind. “I have nothing to lose
and everything to gain,” she says.
