W


hen Carmen Tal launched Moroc-
canoil in 2008, she created an
entirely new beauty category: hair
oil. The forward-thinking entrepreneur—and
former salon owner—continues to drive inno-
vation at the brand, while also emphasizing
the importance of giving back.

What is the secret of your success?
CT: We like to believe that our success is due
to a combination of having the right prod-
ucts at the right time, capturing the heart of
stylists and consumers, and having the per-
fect team in place to help us grow—but I also
like to believe in good luck.

What’s your favorite place to travel?
CT: Marrakech is one of my favorite cities to
visit—it’s beyond amazing. Wherever you
go in Morocco, the colors, the sky, the
intoxicating scents, the people—there’s
just something in the air that inspires
you. We’ve tried to capture that feeling
in every Moroccanoil product.

As part of its Inspired by Women campaign,
Moroccanoil has recently partnered with the
Women’s Tennis Association. What are your
goals for the collaboration?
CT: I hope to continue giving WTA
athletes a platform to spotlight the
philanthropic initiatives, causes, and com-
munities they care about. It’s inspiring
to work with these extraordinary women
and the amazing foundations and groups
they support. Our Inspired by Women plat-
form is so much more than a campaign for
us—it’s a lifelong project to celebrate, inspire,
and empower women around the world.

What are your personal favorite Moroccanoil
products?
CT: I am so proud of our new Color Depos-
iting Mask Collection! It features seven deep
conditioning masks with temporary color that
leave your hair looking and feeling healthy.
I also cannot live without our Night Body
Serum and Protect & Prevent Spray.

What are your goals for the future of the company?
CT: When we started, we didn’t think of how
big the company would be, we just knew our
original Moroccanoil Treatment was an incred-
ible product and wanted to share it with the
world. A decade later Moroccanoil has grown
into a complete lifestyle beauty brand, and my
goal is to expand into many more categories
in the beauty industry. I’m also excited about
our sustainability initiatives: We’re rolling out
more environmentally friendly packaging by
2021, and our production takes place in a fac-
tory that is mostly powered by solar energy.
