WHERE TO STAY
A former convent, Grade II-listed The Alverton is the only four-star
hotel in Truro. The Alverton’s tasteful rooms maintain some of their original
features, including arched doorways and flagstone floors. It’s ideally located
a 10-minute walk from the cathedral, and there’s fine dining on offer at its
restaurant. For something a little different, the National Trust’s Water Tower
at Trelissick is a Rapunzel-esque tower with four rooms, one on each floor.

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK
The Cornish coast is renowned for the quality of its seafood, and
Hooked in Truro is the best restaurant to try it. For fine dining with a
view, head to Trennick Mill, which serves contemporary British delights
overlooking Boscawen Park. After your meal, sup an award-winning
ale at Skinner’s Brewery.

Tregothnan The home of the Boscawen family, Tregothnan
(‘The House at the Head of the Valley’ in Cornish), a
working estate on the banks of the River Fal, dates back
to 1334. It is also home to the UK’s only tea plantation; the
rst English tea was grown here in 2005. The estate’s garden
spreads over 100 acres and is dotted with the world’s biggest
rhododendrons, measuring up to 12 metres in height.
