why i love

glengormley

Ulster Tatler talks to Aspire Support Worker for
NIACRO Naomi Davis about what she likes most
in the Glengormley area.

Tell us a bit about your job role.
I work as a support worker for 18 to 30-year-old men who lead very
chaotic lives within the community. All of the men I support are living
in fear in their local communities due to paramilitary threat. I support
these men to find accommodation in a different area or for some
it can be getting them into a hostel and off the streets. They need
support to claim benefits, register with a local GP, access services to
provide counselling for drug addiction, a gateway to mental health
services and most of all reintegration back into the community. I am
out and about everyday in my job and no two days are ever the same.

What do you like most about Glengormley and where do you
like to dine and socialise in the local area?
Glengormley is definitely a different place to what it was years
ago. There are more places to eat out and the standard is high.
The Corner House Fit Food Deli is great to sit in or take away.
Most people nowadays are conscious of eating healthier and this
place definitely has lots to offer whether it be for lunch or a sweet
treat (healthy one of course). I have eaten here many times and my
daughter especially loves the protein balls. If you aren’t watching
your figure I love the Cheeky Cherub Cake House. They do really
amazing cakes and the portions are fabulous. This is a great place
to catch up with friends over a slice of carrot cake and a cuppa. I’m
not really a big takeaway fan but if there is one thing Glengormley is
not short of it’s great takeaways. As for heading out for a few drinks, I
don’t drink a lot in my local area but if I do it would be to The Crown
and Shamrock which has a lovely beer garden.
