When you’re not 100% sure..

...if your money is still in the right investment?
When you look at an investment statement which has come in the
post, or into your inbox, sometimes you’re not completely sure whether
your investment is still right for you.
Grant Buchanan explains how they can help: “We can review your
investments and provide you with a report which details the investment
strategy, performance and charges. We will discuss and agree your
attitude to investment risk and your capacity for loss and then we
will conduct analysis as to whether your investment is still suitable for
you. If it’s not, we will recommend a suitable investment and explain
the rationale behind our recommendation. Of course, we need to
spend some time with you initially, gathering information about your
personal and financial circumstances, and your investment goals and
requirements. This means that when we make a recommendation, we
are confident that it is suitable for you.”
The value of investments and income from them can go down.
You may not get back the original amount invested.

...when you can afford to retire and how best to use the
money in your pension?
It’s a real achievement to build up pension funds while juggling
the financial demands of family and every day life. But when you do
reach the stage of considering reducing your working hours, or retiring
completely, it can be difficult to know how best to use your pension
funds and importantly, how to make sure that they don’t run out. Grant
knows that this is an area of financial planning which people can find
daunting:
“Over the past few years, there have been a lot of changes with
regards to how withdrawals can be made from pensions but we can
provide advice on the options that are available to you and how to
access your pension in the most tax efficient way.
To start with, it’s crucial that we have a detailed understanding of what
exactly you want to achieve in retirement and what your requirements
will be for both income and capital lump sums. Your attitude to risk
and your capacity for loss are very important too and once we have
established and agreed these areas with you, we can provide you with
bespoke retirement planning advice.
This can include modelling your long-term income needs and
planned expenditure using a cash flow modeller tool to determine
whether, in the context of your attitude and ability to manage risk, it is
likely that you will be able to achieve your objectives.
It means that you can start planning for retirement with confidence,
and we can provide you with ongoing services and advice, to support
you through your working life and then through retirement.”
As a pension is a long term investment, the fund value may
fluctuate and can go down. Your eventual income will depend
upon the size of the fund at retirement, future interest rates and
tax legislation.

...if your loved ones are going to end up paying more tax
than necessary?
Nobody likes to think about a time when they’ll no longer be around
for their loved ones, but sometimes circumstances change or events
happen which cause you to think ahead.
Iain Johnston believes that they can support you in planning for
the future: “We can help you achieve a balance between enjoying a
comfortable standard of living now and being able to pass money on
to your loved ones as tax efficiently as possible. We understand that
you may want to make financial gifts but also to retain a certain level of
control over your investments and assets. Once we have gathered all
the required information about your circumstances, attitude to risk and
your goals, we can provide you with advice on how best to make use
of the allowances which are available to you and how to structure your
finances to pass on your wealth in the most tax efficient way.”
Tax treatment is based on individual circumstances and may be
subject to change in the future. The Financial Conduct Authority
does not regulate tax planning.
