ACADEMY REUNION


The “Class of ’74” from Belfast Royal Academy held a reunion
dinner to celebrate 45 years since leaving school. The event
was held in the Chimney Corner Hotel which had been the
venue for that year’s end of school formal in 1974! A total of 53
former pupils attended and were serenaded during a drinks
reception by three musicians attending the school currently.
Earlier in the day, a number of the guests were given a nostalgic
guided tour of ‘the old school’ and were welcomed back by Mrs
+LODU\:RRGVWKHVFKRROōVƓUVWIHPDOHSULQFLSDO$PRQJVWWKH
group was Mrs Beattie Metcalfe (nee Stevens) aged 97 and the
oldest surviving female pupil who started B.R.A. in 1927; she
accompanied her daughter Clair, who was in the famous Class of
‘74. The 50 year reunion is already in the planning stage.
