Royally Rewarded


This month Ulster Tatler features a selection of investiture photographs from those members of the
community recognised in the Birthday and New Year’s Honours.

NORMAN ESPIE BEM


Former Royal
British Legion’s
national standard
bearer, Norman
Espie, was
awarded a BEM
for services to
ceremonial duties
and remembrance
in the New Year’s
Honours List.
Mr Espie,
who hails from
Cookstown, has
been a member
of the legion
for almost four
decades. In 2007
he started his
training to be a
standard bearer.
In this role, he was
chosen to bear
the standard at
the organisation’s
ŴDJVKLSUHPHPEUDQFH
service in London on several
occasions. His duties also
involved taking part in
several pilgrimages in which
he took family members of

war veterans to see where
their ancestors fought during
World War One and Two.
Mr Espie attended his
investiture alongside his
family.

MR PERRY DONALDSON MBE JP


Perry Donaldson received his MBE from His Royal Highness
The Duke of Cambridge at an Investiture Ceremony held in
Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 19 March 2019. The MBE was
awarded in recognition of his voluntary service with The Boys’
Brigade, Lay Magistracy and Education. For over 60 years Perry has
been associated with 43rd Belfast Company Boys’ Brigade which
is attached to Dundonald Presbyterian Church and is currently a
Brigade Honorary Vice-President. He recently retired from his role
as a Lay Magistrate in which he carried out his duties in the Family
and Youth Courts for over 25 years. He was a member of the
Board of Governors of Dundonald Primary School for over 30 years,
20 years as Chairman. He was accompanied to the Palace by Mrs
Rosemary Beacom, Mrs Rosina Herron and Miss Sharon Mackey.

Olympic legend Lady Mary Peters has received the highest honour of chivalry in
the honours system, after being installed as a member of the Most Noble Order
of the Garter. The ceremony took place at Windsor Castle, with lots of pomp
and pageantry on show, and members of the Royal family along with foreign
Monarchs in attendance, at the annual service.
