RAF VOLUNTEER

RESERVE ROLL OF

HONOUR

The Royal Air Force held a special service in St Anne’s Cathedral
to unveil a Roll of Honour dedicated to the pre-World War II
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR). In 1939, the Reserve
Flying Training School was formed in Belfast to train pilots for the
RAFVR and many young men joined. At the outbreak of World
War II, these young men were called up to full time service and
many went on to play vital roles during the Battle of Britain and
throughout World War II. The Service was attended by the Lord
Lieutenant of Belfast Mrs Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle and senior
members of the Royal Air Force. The Roll of Honour will be
permanently displayed in St Anne’s Cathedral.
