I amthefirsttoputmyhandupandfirmly
denouncea ‘crossoverpie’suchasthis– but
No.4 boldlyofferedupa tandoorichicken
pieandI havetosay,I thoroughlyenjoyed
it.No.4 isa greatsuburbanbarwithan
elevated‘localgastropub’vibe,andits
foodiswell-receivedacrosstheboard.
Thispiehada goodamountofpastrywith
zerosogginess,andtheflavourswere
complementaryenough,withoutburning
yourmouthtopieces.Theteamupdates
their‘ClassicPie’daily– sotheadventurous
amongstyouwillbeinforanabsolutetreat
Thepieiscoupledwitha nicesidesalad
anda stackofhand-cutfries,soyou’ve got
yourself a nice plate of pie-fection.

downtoearth,classicofferingsoffood.It’s
certainlythegoodhomeofa humblepie.
Theirbeefandalepiecomesina single
servepot,witha decentslabofflakypastry
ontop.A mixofsoft,richslow-cookedbeef
andvegetablesina gravymadewithdark
aleandservedwitha modestnumberof
thick-cutfries,asitshouldbe.Thiswas
platedona breadboardandwassteaming
hot.TheGoodHomeoffersanappealing
lunch;thispieandchipscombocertainly
wentdownwellwithanEmerson’sPilsner.

and easy choices.

Claude’sKitchenisa laidbackand
comfortablecaféwitha decentrangeof
cabinetfood,hotpiesandmenuitemsall
madeonsite...includingexcellentpies
thatarereminiscentofsomethingyour
grandmotherwouldhavemade.Here,I
ordereda Kiwiclassic;thealmightysteak
andcheese.I’mallaboutratio,andClaude’s
Kitchenhaspackedinlotsoftendersteakin
theirpie.Thecheesewaslayeredwelland
workedintoaddmorepunchtotheoverall
flavour.Accompaniedbya cheekysliceand
a coffeetogo,andI wasawaylaughing,
albeitwithmymouthfull.Claude’shave
veganoptionstoo, and the team are great.
