BEAUTY

TINT
As light and liquid as their watery and serum
relatives but with more concentrated colour,
tints lightly stain the skin, and their long-
lasting pigments are a boon for those who nd
most colour cosmetics migrate by midday.
Before you apply tints, create a awless base by
exfoliating and moisturising your skin and lips
well, as the colour will catch and highlight any
patchy dryness. Remember, too, that less is
more and the key is to work quickly, tapping
tints into the skin or lips for a blurred nish.

1 Benefit Cha Cha Tint, $57.
2 Elizabeth Arden Cool
Glow Cheek Tint, $68.
3 Revlon Cheek Flushing
Tint in Spotlight, $28.

POWDER
A classic cosmetic that’s more recently been
overlooked, loose or pressed powder is enjoying
a return to favour, but thanks to innovative new
ingredients, this doesn’t mean you have to forgo
that healthy, ‘real’ skin texture. The new
iterations focus on delivering a attering soft-
focus veil that helps to minimise ne lines
(unlike its predecessors, which had a nasty habit
of amplifying them) and set makeup in place
without making you feel like you’re wearing too
many layers. They also tend to be more nely
milled (meaning the particles are smaller) and
cleverly loaded with skincare ingredients such as
hyaluronic acid, so there’s no risk of aking
or caking.

1 Sisley Blur Expert High Definition Makeup,
$130. 2 By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder, $89.

GEL
Unique to the blush category, the revival of gel
and cream formulas is welcome, given they’re
peerless in their ability to deliver a naturally
dewy, just-come-from-yoga ush. What’s more,
they last far longer than their powder
counterparts, particularly in warm weather or
on oily skin.
Forget its reputation for being tricky to apply,
this texture is child’s play, meaning its best to
use your ngers to apply it, dabbing it onto the
apples of your cheeks and working quickly to
blend it in. If you overdo it, keep blending with
your ngers or apply a touch of liquid
foundation over the top – they’ll combine
seamlessly. For the tentative among us, using a
pinky lipstick and dabbing it onto cheeks
before blending gives much the same effect.

1 Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel in Rosy, $35. 2 Guerlain
Meteorites Bubble Blush in Rose, $70.

WATER
Suspending ingredients in a watery uid
means you get the complexion bene ts of
wonder-hydrator hyaluronic acid as well as the
thinnest layer of colour yet. A raft of products
timed to coincide with the northern summer
will really come into their own once our season
in the sun arrives. The reason? They’re hints
of dewy hues that can be swiped or patted on
without precision and last for hours regardless
of what you get up to. We particularly like
L’Oréal’s new Prepping Essence, a watery
hydrating primer with a decidedly Avatar-like
shade that’s imperceptible once applied and
keeps dry skin plump and bright.

1 L’Oréal Paris Infallible Prepping
Essence Drops, $33. 2 YSL Vernis
À Lèvres Water Stain in Fuchsia
Tide, $69.
