I’ve learned confidence is your best weapon

4 NEXT / SEPTEMBER 2019

Many of the stories in NEXT revolve around change. We talk about listening to gut instinct
when making decisions. We discuss how much we bene t from putting ourselves out there.
We encourage each other to be brave. So it was inevitable that at some point, the desire for
change would come and grab me.
What I’m trying to say is; this is my nal issue as editor of NEXT. After 13 years in
magazine publishing I’ve decided to take my career in a new direction. I’m excited to
do so, but very sad to say goodbye to this title. It’s been an absolute privilege to
have had a job like this, writing for passionate, smart, driven, funny women like
you. My ambition at NEXT was to create a community where we would learn
from each other. I hope I’ve achieved that over the years; I’ve de nitely
learned a lot myself.
When I started at this company I was a fresh-faced newly-wed with
no kids who owned multiple pairs of black jeans and not a single
pair of heels. I still wear black jeans, but there’s a lot that’s rubbed
off on me from working here. I’ve learned to shop less, but buy
better. I’ve learned that con dence is your best weapon, under-eye
concealer your best friend, and ‘Let me get back to you on that’ your
best defence. I’ve learned that everyone who tries a moon cup ends up
with a moon cup-related horror story. I’ve learned that your most
important investment is a salon-quality hair dryer. Most importantly, I’ve
learned that nothing compares to the constantly uplifting environment of a
room full of women who love what they do (thank you Sarah, Lou and Mirella for
being the ultimate uplifters).
To all the women who’ve read, featured in, or helped make this magazine

  • thanks for being with me on this journey. I leave you in the
excellent hands of your new editor, and my good friend,
Nicky Dewe. I’ll enjoy kicking back and reading the
magazine when I can snatch an hour to myself. I’m a
NEXT reader now, and I’m looking forward to it.
