If you’re more of a rocker than a jazz
baby, don’t miss ROCK OF AGES – a
celebration of 28 of the most iconic
rock anthems from the 1980s, including
numbers by Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister,
Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon
and Pat Benatar, and many other great
performers. Featuring a dynamic local
cast, the distinctive fashions of the ’80s
(think outrageous hairstyles, big shoulder
pads and mega-platform shoes) and,
of course, the music we’ll never forget,
complete with never-ending guitar solos, it’s great entertainment.
Catch it at Il Teatro in Montecasino from Thursday, 26 September
to Sunday, 20 October (excluding Mondays). Tickets are R150-R350
from Computicket.
Composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist-
dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II were
one of the most successful – and popular
- artistic collaborations of all time, having
given the world unforgettable songs from
musicals such as Oklahoma!, Carousel, The
King and I, South Pacific and The Sound
of Music, as well as iconic numbers such
as New York, New York and The Way You
Look Tonight. MY FAVOURITE THINGS - back by overwhelming public demand – is a tribute to their genius,
recalling the heyday of lavish Hollywood musicals, and is ideal family
entertainment. The production stars Brett de Groot, Kiruna-Lind Devar,
Daniel Geddes, Alyssa Harrison and Sandi Dlangalala, supported by a
talented band of musicians including David Cousins, Lindzi Wiggins,
Cole Matthews and Stephen Haiden. Catch it at the Market Theatre
in Newtown, Johannesburg, from 27-29 September. Bookings at
Computicket or the theatre box office.
