WHY YOUR HAIR

MAY BE THINNING

Our hair is our crowning glory – especially in our younger years. If your hair
looks good, you feel good. But age, pregnancy, stress, illness and menopause
can all lead to thinning. And having less hair to absorb oils often makes for
greasier hair, which starts to need more frequent washing. Thin hair is high-
maintenance hair!
Although regular hair loss of 100 hairs a day isn’t noticeable, as these are
replaced with new hairs beginning their growth cycle, more noticeable hair
loss can occur due to the following factors:
1 HEREDITARY MALE AND FEMALE
PATTERN BALDNESS. This is in
your genes and impossible to alter.
2 HORMONAL CHANGES, including
pregnancy, childbirth, menopause
and thyroid issues. These issues
may or may not resolve on their
own. Hair loss can also be due to
high levels of dihydratestosterone
(DHT), the hormone that causes
hair loss in men. Many hair loss
treatments are aimed at inhibiting
DHT levels.
3 MEDICAL CONDITIONS: Ringworm,

scalp infections and compulsive
hair-pulling (trichotillomania)
are examples.
4 MEDICATION AND CANCER
TREATMENTS: Drugs for chemo,
radiation, arthritis, depression,
blood pressure and heart conditions
can contribute to hair loss.
5 STRESS: Stress not only contributes
to thinning hair, but an incidence
of trauma or shock can result
in severe hair loss (which is,
luckily, temporary).
6 SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS.

I’ve recently started wearing readers
and sometimes putting on eye
make-up is a real strain. You obviously
can’t apply anything to the eye area while
wearing glasses...
Enter Younilook. In short, this device lets
your mirror-wear the glasses. It comes with
four sets of lenses (of differing strengths,
from +1.0 to +4.0) and attaches to your mirror.
You’ll find it much easier to do precision work,
like apply eyeliner and shading, when looking
into your mirror through the Younilook lens.
It’s a really clever gadget. R695 from Takealot.
