printers.TheGeForceRTX 2080 Superfinally
enablesallthepartsonNvidia’sTU104GPU,
givingyou 48 streamingmultiprocessors
(SMs).Thatgivesyou3,072stream
processors, 48 RTcoresand 384 Tensorcores.
It’sa bitofa minisculeboostcompared
withtheothertwoSuperGPUs.TheRTX
2060 Superand 2070 Super(seep16)each
get 256 morestreamprocessorsthantheir
predecessors,buttheRTX 2080 Superonly
has 128 morestreamprocessorsandtwo
moreRTXcoresthantheoriginal2080.

Clockspeedshavealsobeenimproved,

withthebaseandboostclockssitting

at1650MHzand1815MHzrespectively,

comparedto1515MHzand1800MHzonthe

originalRTX 2080 FoundersEdition.The

RTX 2080 Superalsohasa highermemory

frequency,withits8GBofGDDR6RAM

clockedat15.5GHz(effective),compared

to14GHzforalltheRTXcardsbelowit.

Sadly,firstimpressionsarea bitonthe

‘meh’side.Intermsofperformance,the

jumpfromthe 2070 Supertothe 2080

Superissmallerthanthejumpfromthe

2060 Supertothe 2070 Super.It’salso

onlyslightlyfasterthantheoriginal2080.

That’snotsurprisinggiventhespecofthe

GPU, but it makes it hard to justify costing

nearly £200 more than the 2070 Super,

especially when only £100 separates

the 2060 Super from the 2070 Super.

What the RTX 2080 Super does

achieve is a solid Battlefield V frame

rate at 2,560 x 1,440 with ray tracing on

High, staying above 60fps in our test.

Its 4K minimum of 39fps at these

settings is also pretty good considering

the work it’s doing. If you really want

decent frame rates at 4K, though, the

RTX 2080 Ti is still the only GPU that

manages it. Look out for a full review of
