MAKEOVER FOR MODERNIST ICON
The Crown Estate has unveiled plans
to refurbish Grade II-listed New
Zealand House and the adjacent
Grade I-listed Royal Opera Arcade.
Located at 80 Haymarket, the
18-storey tower from the 1960s
is one of the West End’s tallest
buildings. The Crown Estate is
looking to make the building, which
was last refurbished in 1992 and
currently provides approximately
95,000 sq ft of office space, suitable
for the needs of modern businesses.
Renovations to Royal Opera Arcade
will enhance the connection between
Pall Mall, St James’s Market and the
wider St James’s area.
“New Zealand House is a landmark
building for the West End and a
modernist icon,” said Oliver Smith,
The Crown Estate’s head of St
James’s.

24-HOUR MAYFAIR

A new 24-hour private members’ club
has just opened on Hertford Street.
24 Mayfair at The Colony Club is
a dark, brooding space housing an
intimate bar on the ground floor –
with a focus on Japanese-inspired
cocktails – and a first floor restaurant,
serving a contemporary Japanese
menu featuring the likes of fresh dived
king scallops, vanilla miso and pickled
plums; scorched salmon and buffalo
mozzarella makimono, chilli-spiced
mayonnaise and bonito flakes; and
seared foie gras, enoki mushroom,
pomegranate molasses and toasted
walnuts. A second menu sees cuisines
from across the globe represented.
Live music takes place on a weekly
basis, with DJs every night; and
British fashion designer Maria
Grachvogel has designed the staff
uniforms.
