AsforFormulaE,McCarthyseesitasaninevitableandwelcomeadditiontoglobal

motorsport.Andheagreesthatthedriversandteamsarehugelytalented,committedand


professional.Buthehintsthatit’sspoiledbytemporarycircuitsthataretoonarrow.


McCarthy’sfromamodestbackground,andhisfinancialtroubleswerefargreaterthan

mostF1drivers’(hehalfjokesthathelookedforafastfoodsponsorsohecouldputmeals


onthetableforthefamily).I’msurprisedhedoesn’tobjecttoTVviewershavingtopayto


seeliveF1racesonsatellitetelevision.Hearguesthat,comparedtothecostofdad,mum


andtwokidstravellingtoandpayingtoattendaGrandPrix,TVviewingisabargain.


F1’sgreatestoff-trackshowman,McCarthycouldandshouldbemoreinvolved.Agood

startwouldbetomotivatedriverswhoseemtired,miserable,jumpedupandlessthan


hungrytowin.Let’sfaceit,mostofthemneedakickfromsomeonelikePerry.Andwhile
