John Jeffriss hasn’t been
sitting on his hands, he’s
been busy working whilst juggling
the many projects he always seem
to have on the go and luckily for
this publication one of them was
this stunning Doka. John’s Dad was
also named John, to avoid confusion
everyone called him Jeff (John
senior that is). Well Jeff had seen
and was involved with the Woody
build and he really liked it, so
much so that he fancied something

similar himself. To help him with
his gardening Jeff had thought that
a pickup truck of some kind, would
be a very useful tool and of course
once John got involved with the
search, that truck was always going
to be a Volkswagen. The father and
son duo found this 1996, T4 Doka
that was powered by a standard 2.4
litre engine and was looking quite
sorry for itself in it’s black, green
and white paintjob, it came with
a current MOT certificate, which
John was sure came from dubious
sources. After purchasing it, it was
taken straight to the workshop

for a load of remedial welding and
other work to be completed. Once
the truck was officially roadworthy
it was put straight to work. Sadly, in
2016 Jeff was diagnosed with cancer
and so the truck was put to another
purpose, that of transporting him
to his hospital appointments and
taking him for days out instead.
John decided that the truck needed
a little sprucing up as its current
purpose didn’t really suit the look
it was sporting. John will paint
vehicles any colour, he’s generally
led by the car or van as they always
seem to have a feel as to what shade
they should be. But if they end up in
his signature Post Office Red, then
that means you’re going to have to
forcibly remove the keys from him,
to get it out of his collection. Sadly,
Jeff lost his battle with the illness,
but John decided to carry on with the
project he’d started with his Dad, if
only to honour him. As it turned out,
