Name Change

Unwin No More
In April last year Unwin, the manufacturers of those
splendid adaptable floor rails, used in mobility vans and
campervan conversions were taken over by Swedish
company, BraunAbility. They have recently changed their
name too, so if you’re converting your own van and think
you might want some of their superb rails visit:

T6.1 California

Coming soon
Volkswagen recently released the first sketches of the new
T6.1 California. The update for the flagship campervan
apparently includes many aspects. We are told that: “The
interior has been enhanced, the multifunction camper
control unit in the roof console has been redesigned and
digitalized, new assistance systems enhance safety and
comfort, a new generation of infotainment with e-SIM
opens up the world of mobile online services, and digital
instruments are available for the first time in the Digital
Cockpit.” Then there is of course the new redesigned T6.
front end.

Obituary

A Legend Passes

Simon Pollack, or nefarious, as he
was also known, sadly passed away
recently after suffering an aneurysm.
Simon was a pinstriper extraordinaire
and not only created some uniquely
kool pieces, but regularly held
master classes for anyone who
wanted to learn how to grasp the art
form. Back in 2014 Simon agreed to
pinstripe my T4 and with the barest
of instructions as to what I’d like, he
was left to his own devices to create
whatever he wished. On my return
it’s safe to say that he had not only
“finished” my van, but also exceeded
any expectations that I had. He even
included extra bits on the vehicle
that we’d not discussed and he didn’t
charge for, but in his words “needed to
be done”, such was the measure

of the man. A stalwart of the VW
scene for many years Simon will be
sorely missed, I know I can speak for
the magazine as we send our deepest
condolences to his family and friends.

Freelancer and regular contributor, Simon Cooke,
told us of a somewhat sketchy world record that
he recently set. I’ll let him continue, “More than
thirty VWs, mainly T4 and T5s, recently set a
new world record for the highest number of VWs
camping overnight in an abandoned and haunted
prison. All the people involved survived the
night and were released back into the community
the following morning”. The Guinness people
have not been alerted... If you want to help him
raise this somewhat dubious record even higher

Experiences on Facebook for future events.
