COCONUT OIL
Besides tasting great
and working well in
baked goods, coconut
oil (especially virgin
coconut oil) has some
great health benefits,
too! Apart from
containing nutrients
like vitamin E,
provitamin A,
polyphenols and
phytosterols, coconut
oil has a lot of medium-
chain fatty acids, which
can be useful for
those suffering from
fat malabsorption
conditions. In addition,
coconut oil may also
have some anti-
bacterial, antiviral and
antifungal properties.
With that said,
because coconut oil is
also higher in long-
chain saturated fatty
acids (saturated fats)
compared to other
plant oils, replacing
all other plant oils
with coconut oil is not
prudent as it does not
provide any essential
fatty acids and very
little heart-healthy
monounsaturated
fats. Rather mix it up
by using a variety of
heart-healthy plant
oils like olive, avocado
or nut oils and keep
coconut oil for
special occasions.

WE’RE A LITTLE OBSESSED WITH COCONUT OIL AND
HAVE A JAR IN THE KITCHEN, ONE IN THE BATHROOM,
AND ONE NEXT TO OUR BED. WE USE THIS MAGIC STUFF
IN PLACE OF BUTTER, SPREAD ON OUR TOAST FOR SOME
HEALTHY FATS (IT HELPS WITH OUR CHOLESTEROL!).
WE USE IT ON OUR TEETH TO PREVENT TOOTH DECAY,
AND USE IT TO CURE PERSISTENT DRY SKIN. IT’S LIKE
DUCT TAPE FOR OUR HEALTH!
