JUST IN CASE YOUDIDN'TKNOW...

Aspectacularweekend of grasstrack
action is promised for fans of the sideways
sport in September.
John Banner and his co-promoter Carl
Pugh have organised the Longdon Lazer
GrassTrackfor September 8, 2019 at Heath
Hill Farm, near Longdon, inWorcestershire,
then theACUsaid theyneeded someone
to run the Pre-75championship grasstrack
–sothe lads stepped up.
The result isaweekendevent with
theACU Pre-75 GrassTrackonSatur day,
September 7, and then the Longdon Lazer
on Sunday8.
Forthose of us not up to speed with the
current Pre-75 grass scene,the guythey
all have to beat at thechampionship has
to be Dave Hammond. He’swon the Pre-75
500ccchampionship four times inarow
at various tracks in the country, first at
Fenland in Cambridgeshirethen Pickering
and on to Cheshireand Cornwall.
Travelling is no hardship toaman
whofinished 21st in the legendaryDakar
on his KTM in 2000. Bike shopowner
Hammond, from South Cerneynear
Cirencester will onceagain be on his two-
valveRMS-framedJawa thathas served
him sowell.
He’snot likelytohaveitall hisownway
though,with Worcester’sTim Curnock, a
three-time title winner,onhis RTSJawa.
Haulage cont ractor Curnockhad bad luck
in 2018 when heblew the motor, soheis
looking to keepittogether thisyear.As
Curnockisthe lastracer to win the Three
Counties ShowGroundCup,and with
Tewkesburyformer Eurochampion Gerald

Short on his Swish Antig, theracing will
surelybegood.
Additionally, thereisDroitwich’sNeil
Copestake on his newlybuilt Siegerin
the350cc class, but he then takes on six-
timechampion Chris Mackett fromKent.
Mackett,aformer RyeHouse speedway
racer has been riding since 1971, in
2007 he came backtovinta ge machines.
Announcing hisreturnby winning the 250
Upright class twice,healsocompetes in
the 500cc upright along with the all-new
GT140 class, but will onlybeout in the 350
upright class.
It remains to be seen whichofhis 350s
he elects torace as he has taken twotitles
on aBSA Brouno and four onaJAP in a
RegLuckhurst frame.
Giving them allarun for their money
will be former uprightchampion Dave
Wright who haswonthis class before
and will be using one of SelwynPerry’s
Ansel bikes (Selwynwasthe brother of
the lateTigPerry, Tigofcourse building
Antig machines). Dave has not been on
the racetrackfor awhile,knee problems
keeping him out of action.
All in all, it sounds likeafrantic
weekend ofracing with action both days
starting with practice at 11am thenracing
from 12.30.
It will costyouatenner to getineach
day, unless you’re under 16 when it’sfree.
Forthose who plan ahead, there’s
achance toreceive a25% discount on
ticket pricesby heading toJohn Banner’s
website http://www.johnbanner.uk
The event is at HeathHill Farm,
Worcestershire, WR8 0RQ.
