Bring on show season

O

KAY, so winter is not officially finished for 2019, but
there’s a light on the horizon. And it’s called ‘Truck
Show Season’. For whatever reason, there’s a glut of
road transport events crowding the calendar in the
months from August through to October.
Already this month the increasingly popular
Casino Truck Show has kicked off proceedings.
Further south-west in NSW (and shortly after this edition hits
the streets), the Trangie Truck and Tractor Show will take place
on August 16. As it’s only around an hour west of Dubbo, this
family-focused event is certain to be another success.
Even further west, Alice Springs will again be hosting its
annual National Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion. Now
there’s been a disturbance among the ranks of the organisers
but, with the help of Northern Territory Government,
this event is certain to go ahead. And it must. The annual
pilgrimage to Alice Springs is a trip any truck industry
individual should make, at least once in their lifetime.
Closer to the east coast, the Lowood Truck Show, around
halfway between Toowoomba and Brisbane, is quickly growing
in status. This year’s event takes place on August 24.
Further down the coast and into NSW, the mid-north coast
town of Kempsey will be holding its annual truck show on
September 14. It’s also a good excuse to take in the town’s Slim
Dusty Centre, even if you’re not a fan of the late and great
country singer.
Down in the Hawkesbury region outside Sydney, the
Clarendon Classic Rally will take place over two days on

September 21 and 22. As in the past few years, this event also
includes the Kenworth Klassic. As the title suggests, it’s wall-to-
wall Kenworths.
However, fans of the mighty bulldog brand will be pleased to
know that this year’s HCVAQ Historic Truck and Tractor Show,
held at the Gatton showgrounds in south-east Queensland, will
feature predominantly Mack trucks. The September 28 event
coincides with Mack celebrating 100 years in Australia, so it’s
certain to attract Mack aficionados from across the country.
Just a week later on October 5, and also in Gatton, the annual
Lights On The Hill Memorial Convoy will be held. It is in fact
two convoys; one starting from Withcott, not far from eastern
end of the new Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. The
second will start from Volvo Commercial Vehicles’ complex at
Wacol near Brisbane. As usual, a Sunday memorial service will
take place at Gatton’s Apex Park.
For industry leaders and tech heads, the three-day Technical
and Maintenance Conference, starting on October 14, will
again be held at the Automotive Centre of Excellence at
Docklands in Melbourne.
Backtracking to September, rev-heads will be interested in
round 3 of the Australian Super Truck Nationals at Benalla
in Victoria.
With all these events taking place in a short space of time, it’s
often difficult to keep track of what’s on and where.
So, to make life easier, check out the Upcoming Events panel

issue. Happy travelling!
