An unassailable bead

NIKE JOYRIDE

If you love running, you should probably love the trainers you run in.
We’re not sure what sneaks you’re sporting at the minute, but Nike
reckons they’ll pale in comparison to its new Joyrides. For a long time,
foam has been all the rage in running shoes, but these trainers use
a new cushioning system comprised of tiny beads to create a
personalised fit. According to Nike, the TPE beads will match the needs
of your specific running style, creating a dynamic footbed that offers
tailor-made impact protection by forming to your lovely foot slabs. It’s
like “running on bubbles,” apparently; and while we can’t vouch for that
claim yet, we have to admit it sounds like a lot of fun.

R-Type of mini console

KONAMI PC ENGINE CORE GRAFX MINI

The old PC Engine isn’t exactly dangerously close to the top of our
‘most wanted’ list of vintage consoles. But in the late 1980s it won
respect from hardcore gamers through dazzling arcade-perfect ports
of R-Type and the like, before being crushed by the SNES. Now, the
awkwardly named PC Engine Core Grafx Mini is on the way to Europe
(while Japan gets the more sensibly named PC Engine Mini). Games
vary by region, but Brits can look forward to the aforementioned
R-Type, Ninja Spirit, Alien Crush and more – that is, those of us who
can find space for yet another shrunk-in-the-wash games system
under the telly. At this rate, we’ll get an Oric Mini by 2021.
