(Barry) #1

OUR MONTH

I SAT IN A LEGO
SUPERCAR
The Goodwood Festival of
Speed is like Glastonbury for
car geeks, but even my nerd
barometer topped out at
spotting a full-scale replica of the McLaren
Senna supercar constructed from 500,
Lego bricks. At 1518kg it’s actually 500kg
heavier than the real thing – so says
Ayrton’s racing driver nephew Bruno,
who was kind enough to show me around.
As if driving a McLaren isn’t loud enough,
the real ones also come with a Bowers &
Wilkins sound system – which, as you’ll see
in this issue, is rather special.

I FORGOT MY
‘NO GAMING AT
THE TABLE’ RULE
They don’t keep you waiting
long for your Asian tapas
at the Inamo restaurant
in Camden Town, but how long does it take
the average hungry child in a public place
to start acting up? About eight seconds?
Luckily, once you’ve ordered your food via
iPad, Inamo’s ceiling projectors allow you to
play games and puzzles on your tabletop.
Pictured: the opening exchanges of an epic
Pong encounter that eventually went to
extra time before being controversially
abandoned due to sashimi on the pitch.

I INDULGED IN
‘SELF-CARE’ FOR
THE FIRST TIME
You probably wouldn’t think
I have much in common
with Beyoncé and Cristiano
Ronaldo... but you’d be wrong. They both
apparently make use of LPG Endermologie’s
revitalising facials, and this month, so did I.
The brand’s Cellu M6 Alliance tech sends
micro-pulsations over the surface of your
face and neck, banishing toxins and reducing
wrinkles. My mush definitely looked nicely
plump afterwards, but sadly I didn’t gain any
of Cristiano’s footballing ability.

I FELT THE
ADIDAS BOOST...
...and then I felt the blow
as English sprinter Desiree
Henry tagged me in a game
of human Pac-Man – where
we, the semi-fit mortals, had to run along
lines on the ground without getting caught
by the ghosts, a pack of sinewy elite athletes.
We were all equipped with the greatest
of running shoes, Adidas’s Ultraboost 19s,
which look as though tiny marshmallows
have been densely packed into the soles
for extra bounce. Now why couldn’t the
event have focused on real marshmallows?
