2019 Lincoln were raffl ed to benefi t
concours charities. The Mayors Choice
award went to Jim Simpson for his
2001 Simpson Design Swift. The Media
Choice award went to Alan Bambina for
his unusual 1962 Porsche 356 complete
with canoe rack. The Chairman’s Award
went to Dennis Flolo for his custom
1950 Chevrolet Bel Air coupe, a previ-
ous Ridler Award winner.
“Best of Show American” was
awarded to noted sports car collector
Billy Hibbs of Tyler, Texas with his just
completed 1966 Ford GT40. GT40s are
sometimes called “Ferrari Slayers” due
to their historic 1-2-3 victories at the
1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. According
to Hibbs, “The GT40 was completedthe Friday afternoon before the event
by restorer Jeff Snyder, of Jeff ’s Resur-
rections, who has worked on the car for
the last several years and drove through
high winds and pelting rain to arrive at
the Lakewood Yacht club at 3 a.m. Sat-
urday during the peak of the storms in
Seabrook.”
“Best of show European” was award-
ed to a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Spe-
cial Cabriolet Roadster owned by Craig
Hopkins of Cedar Hill, Texas. Mercedes
reportedly built only 29 such Special
Cabriolets, and although examples sel-
dom change hands, when they do, they
command prices in the millions.
