Packard Points BY GERALD PERSCHBACHER LL.D.
I
f there were a word that could be
fi rmly fi xed with the name Pack-
ard, someone is bound to nomi-
nate the word COMFORT. That’s
not to say it would be the only hopeful.
POWER could be another pick as well
as LUXURY, QUALITY, FIT, FINISH,
REPUTATION and QUALITY. The list
can grow longer, depending on the expe-
riences of hobbyists.
When comfort is considered, it
makes sense. No one bought a new car
in ages past because it was uncomfort-
able. When the contoured look of the
post-Clipper design abounded in Pack-
ard dealerships for 1948-1950, it sim-
ply looked comfortable, and it deliv-
ered. The design seemed eye-pleasing,
friendly, and sleek enough to make the
outer shell appear aerodynamic. Maybe
it wasn’t that way in the minds of all
people who saw it, but overall, the de-
sign had a comfort factor that enticed
purchases.
Packard Comfort
22nd Series and 23rd Series
Packards were renown for comfort. Many
still provide it today.
