‘Old School’

I

have grown up around Model T,
Model A and Early V-8 Fords my
whole life. As a kid, I progressed
from Legos, bicycles, motorbikes
and fi nally to cars. My fi rst restora-
tion project was a 1931 Ford Model
A wide-bed pickup that my dad and I re-
stored from the ground up. We started
when I was a freshman in high school
and fi nished in February 2016, when I
was a junior.
This 1932 Ford project started by ac-
cident. I’ve always loved the look of a
1932 Ford fi ve-window coupe and men-
tioned to my dad that someday I’d like
to build one. Once my Model A pickup
was completed, we were between differ-
ent restorations on a few of his cars. We
attended a swap meet in Lincoln, Neb.,
in March 2016 where I spotted a mint
1932 Ford grille insert for sale. I took

my dad over to look at it and we bought
it, not knowing that it would be the fi rst
part of the car. A month later, an auction
ad appeared in Old Cars Weekly adver-
tising a 1932 Ford frame in Wahoo, Neb.

My dad and I saw the ad, and he said that
if I wanted to build a ’32, we could get
that frame and start on one. How could I
refuse? We attended that sale and bought
the frame. Immediately, we had it sand-
