The Canon Magazine 115
PRO/TOP SPEC
What we love
The top-spec mirrorless EOS R has an
almost identical megapixel count as the
5D Mk IV DSLR, at 30.3MP. Specifications
are also a significant step up than in the
EOS RP, with a greater number of
phase-detection autofocus points, a faster
maximum shutter speed and continuous
drive rate, and a much higher resolution
for both the electronic viewfinder and the
larger LCD around the back. A secondary
info panel is added to the top panel of the
EOS R and it has a longer battery life in
general. It’s an altogether more lovable
mirrorless camera that just seems to
impress us endlessly.
What’s missing?
There’s no secondary memory card slot,
nor is there any in-body image
stabilization as with other most current
mirrorless full-frame cameras.
Why upgrade?
Upgrade if you want the best mirrorless
camera on the market right now, that can
still make use of your prized DSLR lenses.
Cokin Nuances Extreme
ND Z-Pro
Price £120/$200
Tested 152
What we love
Available in 6-stop and 10-stop options, these
filters are ideal for capturing long exposures in
broad daylight. What we particularly like about
the Nuances Extreme ND filters is their lack of
colour cast and uniformity across the surface.
They’re also available in standard (P), Z-Pro (L)
and X-Pro (XL) sizes, with quality holders.
What’s missing?
The genuine holder is pricey in larger sizes, but a
range of compatible alternatives is available.
Why upgrade?
Excellent quality circular polarizing filters that
you simply can’t replicate in post.
Manfrotto Pro Light
Reloader Switch 55
Price £249/$390 Tested 154
What we love
The winner of our
recent Mini Test of
roller bags, this
Manfrotto literally
takes a weight off and is
wheelie useful for all kinds of travel, especially
as it adheres to most airline cabin luggage
restrictions. There’s also pull-out straps for
when you need to sling it over your shoulders.
What’s missing?
It’s not really missing anything at all, although
it’s more expensive than many competing
roller bags.
Why upgrade?
If you need to transport a lot of heavy-duty kit
and don’t want to put your back out in the
process, this roller bag is ideal.
It’s an altogether
more lovable mirrorless
camera that just seems
to impress us
