Full-frame Canon DSLRs

“I LOVE my 50-megapixel Canon EOS 5DS R,
it’s an amazing camera for portraiture and it’s
full-frame, which helps with beautiful
background blur when I use my prime lenses
at wide apertures,” says Rebecca. “The image
quality is incredible, with lovely natural
colours, and I have no problems with noisy
images when shooting at high ISOs in low
light. I also carry my old 5D Mark III as a
backup just in case, which was lucky as
Leanne’s 200D was having problems focusing

  • so she borrowed my camera for the day.”

REBECCA’S COMMENT

It was great to show
Leanne how simple
compositions can be highly
effective. We utilized the
lovely blue paintwork on the
wall for our backdrop, and picked out a nice
yellow dress for Chantelle that contrasted
perfectly. The light levels were lower against
this wall as it was quite far from a large window.
This meant the light was diffused nicely for
softer light, but that also meant we needed to
increase our ISO to 500. We paired that with
a shutter speed of 1/125 sec for sharp shots
and used a wide aperture of f/2.

HAIR AND MAKE-UP

ARTIST ON DECK

“IF THE budget allows for it, I’ll use a good hair
and make-up artist to ensure the models look
their best before we star t shooting – this all
helps to capture nicer portraits and also
means a little less Photoshop work later on,”
says Rebecca. As Leanne is a make-up artist
who wants to be able to take bet ter por traits of
her clients for her portfolio, it meant she was
able to help our model improve her make-up
during the shoot.
