01 SET UP A PLACE TO PERCH
For this technique you’ll want to place a large garden fork in the ground
close to your bird feeders. This will give them a more photogenic place to
perch when they’re flying back and forth between the feeders. It’s a good
idea to place your fork now in anticipation of snow in the colder winter
months, as this will give them more time to get accustomed to the new
perch. If you can’t wait for a dusting of snow, you could fake it by
sprinkling a little artificial snow on to the fork handle.

Set up a simple perch in your garden for birds to
pose on, allowing for easy avian photography

attract birds to your garden and increase your chances
of seeing them, especially the wintery red-breasted
robin. To prepare a quick perch, prop up a garden fork next to
the feeders – this is much more photogenic than a usual bird
feeder. The secret is taking your pictures with a long zoom lens
and using a wide aperture to blur the background so you can’t
tell it was taken in your garden. Here’s how to do it...
