Clic kthePowerToysicon inthe notification area^1 toopen
the General Settings. The PowerRename PowerToy^2
should be listedalongwithFancyZones and Shortcut
Guide.Makesureit’sswitched on.^3 If it ’s not there, scroll down
to the bottomofthe page and click ‘Checkforupdates’.

In File Explorer,selectthe files andfoldersyouwant to
rename.Right-clickand choosePowerRename.^1 The
PowerRename boxappears, populatedwiththe items
you’veselected.^2 This lis tincludesfolders^3 and thecontents
of anyfolders and subfolders thatwereselected.

To rename your files, type the partof their nameyouwant
to remove in the‘Searchfor’ box,^1 then type thewords
youwant to replaceitwithinthe ‘Replacewith’ box.^2
ThePreviewbox showsyou the current filenames^3 and what
they’ll looklike when youclick theRename button.^4

Bydefault,all thefiles will beselected and runthrough
the renaming filteriftheymatchthe criteria.Ifthereare
anyindividualfilesyou don’twant torename,untick the
boxesnext tothem inthe Previewwindow.^1 Files thataren’t
sele ctedwon’t appearin the Renamedcolumn.^2

If there aretoo many files to selectmanually,use the
Optionstowhitt le downthe listinstead. Forinstance,
youcouldexclude files in subfolders,^1 exclud eall fi les or
all folders,^2 or have the searchterm only appear in the name
or extensio nofafile.^3

boxtoEnumerateItems.^2 To use regularexpressions in
the search box–for wildcards, logical operators and

experimentaltools for advanced users inspired bythe
original Windows 9 5PowerToys. Microsoft hasjustadded
another handy utility tothe set, called
PowerRename,whichyou canuse
toquicklyand efficientlyrename
batches offiles in one go.
