This isn’tuncommon butit dates
back afewyears andtheproblem
still hasn’t been solved, so don’texpect
Googletosort itout anytime soon.
Theremaybeafewreasons whyyou’re
seeingthis symbol
and message,but the
mostlikely isa
conflict between the
text-to-speech
engineandan app
that’stryingtoaccess
it. If you’ve
downloadedany
apps thatuse the
speakers and
microphone,try
uninstalling them to
see ifthe problem
persists. You can’t,
unfortunately,disable
text-to-speech, butyoucould try going
to the Accessibility area of Settings,
double-checkingyour current settings
and turning off the screenreaders.

Q

HowdoIstop predictivetext
appearing intheChrome omnibox
whenItypesomething in theaddress
bar? Ibelie ve earlierversions of Chrome
had anoption in the Privacy settingsto
stop predictivetextbut version 78
doesn’t include this, so I’m guessing there
mustbeanotherwaytodoit.
I’veseen other people posting similar

problems on theweb, and some say
they’veswitchedto other browsers, such
as Operaand Fi refox, which letyou
disable predictivetext. I’ drather not do
this becaus eIlike usin gChromefor most

Forsome reason, it appears Google
doesn’twant youtostopusing its
predictions.We’dwager thatdataand ad
salesare two
reasons why
the option
has been
removed.
Youstill ha ve

somecontrol, though. SearchChrome
settingsforauto-complete.
Alternatively,you can deleteindividual
‘auto-completes’ from the omnibox.Start
typingaweb addressand,when itor any
other‘suggestedsearch’ appearsin the
drop-down box, use the arrowkeysto
highlightit.Hold the Shiftkey and press
Delete(not Backspace) to permanently
remove the suggestion from the list.

makeWindows10 ‘emulate’older

contextmenu,usetheSearchbar,
right-clickthe app inthe search results
and click‘Openfile location’. Right-
click the shortcut thatFileExplorer
highlights andselectProperties.
Go tothe Compatibility taband tick
‘Run thisprogram in compatibility
mode for:’and choose Windows8,7,

Usecompatibility modeinWindows 10

VistaSP1,Vista SP2or Vista. Sadly,it
doesn’tgobackanyfurther.These
steps work onWindows7and 8,too.
