SKIN SAVIOURS for DELICATE COMPLEXIONS

of what makes you flush, so you know what to avoid. On a broader
level, sugar and dairy can both cause inflammation in the body, so
over time they will contribute to weaker and more reactive skin.’
Even if you think your skin is fine with dairy and sugar, the
effects can be a lot subtler than you may realise. If you’re intolerant
to dairy, it can cause puffy under-eyes and dark circles that won’t
disappear, no matter how many eye creams you use. This is due
to lactose setting off inflammatory systems in the body, causing
everything to look swollen and puffy.
If your skin doesn’t get along with sugar, lines and wrinkles
can seem more prominent on the forehead and leave skin looking
a bit grey. This is due to sugar destroying the skin’s much-needed
collagen, meaning it loses its elasticity. La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5
Serum features two types of hyaluronic acid to help plump the look of
tired skin and repair the skin’s barrier for a healthy complexion.

TAKE CARE WITH RETINOL
In the world of anti-ageing, retinol is the number-one ingredient to
help prevent the formation of crow’s feet and frown lines. However, if
you have sensitive skin, some products containing high percentages
of retinol can leave skin irritated and red. ‘If you’re trying an active
ingredient, such as vitamin C or retinol, always start with the lower
percentages and gradually build up the strength as your tolerance
increases,’ Debbie advises.
Those with more delicate skin should choose a product with
low-dosage retinol, which is kinder but still helps fight the good
fight against fine lines. La Roche-Posay’s Redermic range uses a
hypoallergenic formula that avoids making skin so desert-dry that
it flakes, but instead leaves it smooth and hydrated. No angry red
patches to see here. Use before bed to reduce dark spots and
pigmentation for a brighter, more even skin tone.

PRACTISE SAFE SUN
‘If nothing else, always use SPF. The sun’s rays weaken the skin,
meaning that over time it can become more sensitive,’ explains
Debbie. Follow up your morning serum with an SPF product that’s
specially formulated with sensitive skin in mind.
La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios Shaka Ultra-Light Facial Sun Cream
SPF50+ will keep your face protected throughout the day and –
bonus – won’t leave a white cast or any greasy residue that could
clog and irritate fragile skin. The lightweight formula is ideal as a
base for make-up too, so no excuses for missing that vital last skincare
step. And, no, a rainy forecast is not an excuse to scrimp on the SPF.
Your face will thank us later.
